C’RIVER COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION SHUTDOWNS ILLEGAL SCHOOLS IN YAKURR AND OBUBRA LGAs

The Cross River State Commissioner for Education Senator Stephen Odey Ph D, today closed down three illegal schools operating in Ugep, Yakurr and Apiapum, Obubra LGAs of Cross River State.

The Commissioner and his team in an unannounced visit, embarked in a tour where the illegal schools were closed down for not following the Ministry’s guidelines in operating a school, unconducive learning environment, children being kept in unhealthy environment, that is unacceptable; all those running illegal schools without the Ministry’s approval must be closed down. Operating a school in the State must be in compliance with the Ministry’s policies, the Commissioner emphasised.

The schools closed down in Yakurr and Obubra LGAs are:
*Glorious Vision Academy, Ijiman Ugep; Name of Proprietor, Pastor Gabriel Okoi Oje.
*Dynamic Premiere Academy Ugep; Name of Proprietor, Mr Wofai Ubi Omini.
* Wealth Academy Nursery/Primary School Apiapum, Obubra LGA; Name of Proprietor, Mr Emmanuel Okorn

The Commissioner and his team also frowned at the number of unqualified teachers found in both schools. The schools have been shutdown indefinitely, and other such illegal schools in the State will not be spared, he emphasised.

In Community Secondary School Apiapum, Obubra LGA, the Commissioner and his team inspected the ongoing WAEC Examination, the School Principal Mr Obong Bassey Etim was also present as the Commissioner met the SS3 students writing Chemistry Practical, he encouraged them to reciprocate Governor Otu’s kind gesture of free WAEC registering and come out with excellent results.
