Cross River Speaker calls for more policing in the suburbs

The Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has charged officers attached to the NPF zone 6 headquarters in Calabar to carry out their tasks without fear or favour.

The speaker who visited the AIG in charge of zone 6 AIG Jonathan Towuru in his office in Calabar expressed satisfaction at the state of policing in the metropolis but urged them to extend their strides in the suburbs and hinterlands.

“A lot of crime perpetrators have made our villages and suburbs their fortresses and this consciously robs on the urban, causing unnecessary panics”

Furthermore, the speaker reiterated that the 10th assembly under his leadership remains committed to making laws that would enable security operatives in the State, to carry out their responsibilities with much ease.

Responding, the AIG in charge of zone 6 appreciated the speaker’s visit and called for stronger ties with other arms of the government, especially the executives. He said the zone would continue to ensure that the primary objectives of the Nigerian Police Force (protection of lives and properties) remain paramount.

Highlights of the visit were the presentation of Award Plague to Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem and group photographs.

Matthew Okache,
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker.
