C’River Commissioner for Education, On a Familiarisation Visit To College of Education Akampka

Senator Stephen Odey Ph D, Cross River State Commissioner for Education, on a familiarisation visit to the Cross River College of Education, Akamkpa. He was welcome by the Provost Dr. James Etim Achibong.

The Provost in welcoming the Commissioner alongside some of his Directors from the Ministry of Education, congratulated him for his well deserved appointment and remarked that, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu, made the best choice following Senator Odey’s antecedents in CR-SUBEB.

The Provost further emphasised that, since his five years as provost of the College, Senator Odey, is the first Commissioner for Education that has visited the College on a working tour in the state, noting that others only came on invitation during academic ceremonies like matriculation and convocation.

The Commissioner, thanked the School Management and highlighted on critical issues, such as low enrollment, lack of commitment by staff, poor learning environment and some dilapidated infrastructures within the school is totally in variance with the standard he expected. He however, commended the Provost for running some degree programmes in collaboration with the University of Calabar and getting some courses accredited.

Further, the Commissionr charged the Provost and the management team to gear up to new reforms that will be embarked by the government of Senator Prince Bassey Otu, as he directed the Provost to highlight all the issues and challenges of the College to his office within one week for onward submission to the Governor for his kind consideration and possible intervention.
