Hon. Akiba Preaches Unity as he attends the New Year celebration in Gov. Otu’s Country Home

It was a historic homecoming as Governor Bassey Otu’s kinsmen thronged his country home to accord him a rousing reception and celebrate the New Year with their illustrious son. The epoch-making visit was not unexpected in view of the remarkable achievements of the Governor, so far, which have endeared him to all and sundry.

In line with his vision to foster collaborative synergy for meaningful development, regardless of political differences and inferences, the Member, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba, accompanied by his constituents, attended the event as a mark of goodwill and solidarity.

Speaking with newsmen, Hon. Bassey Akiba, who is also the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, said he was profoundly delighted to join in celebration with the Governor and Cross Riverians on the auspicious occasion.

He extolled the sterling leadership qualities of Governor Bassey Otu, his open door policy, and developmental strides since he assumed office, stating that what unites us as a people is far more important and substantial than whatever differences exist among us.

“We must reaffirm the spirit of solidarity and togetherness that binds us as Cross Riverians. Ours is a political culture that is welcoming, embracing, liberal not divisive and exclusionary. In the days, weeks, months, and years ahead, we will continue to do everything to unite our people, regardless of political affiliation, for meaningful development and progress, through unity of purpose, there is no limit to what we can achieve”, he said.

The event attracted top government functionaries and citizens amid merriment and a rich tapestry of culture.
