A former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Barr. Omosede Igbinedion has declared her intention to contest next year’s governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Barr. Omosede has been under pressure by youths, chieftains and elders of both the PDP and other political parties to contest the election.
Omosede made her declaration at the State Secretariat of the PDP after she informed her father, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, on why she wants to be the first female Governor of the heartbeat state.
Accompanied by hundreds of women, Barr. Omosede told the PDP State Working Committee that her mission to Osadebey Avenue was to unite the people of the State in one common purpose.
She promised to carry all stakeholders along if supported to win the primary and the main election.
State Chairman of the party, Hon Tony Aziegbemin, said the party has always pushed for women to be given a chance in the political field.
Hon Aziegbemin promised to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
According to him, “While the PDP lost woefully in other constituencies in Edo State, we defeated the Labour Party in Ovia Federal Constituency. There is something right about her. There is something that she did that made the PDP defeat the Labour Party. We will provide a level playing field. We will not hesitate to give all the support to women. We will go back campaigning to make sure Barr. Omosede emerges as our candidate.
“This Party under the leadership of the Governor, has consistently maintained that women, because of their being honest, courageous and truthful to the things you tell them, they should be given a space in the political field. This is the time to give a woman a chance. This is the time to give somebody like Omosede a chance. We are excited women have turned out to support one of our own to run for this office.
PDP Chairman, Ovia North East, Monday Ehinoro, described Omosede as a capable aspirant that would be able to carry people along.
“She is equal to the task. She is capable of being the next governor of Edo State. I want to task everybody here to go home and canvass for her. She is prepared to carry women and youths along.
Financial Secretary of the PDP and Acting Woman Leader said Omosede was the first aspirant to visit the secretariat to tell them she wants to contest.
“We are going to be canvassing for you. I am going to support you because what men cannot do a woman is doing it better. For the first time, we are seeing a lady coming out from a humble family to say she wants to govern the State. When a lady gets there, she will give what is due to everyone of us.”
