YACHE NEW YAM FESTIVAL: SEN. PROF. ODEY CELEBRATES WITH YACHE NATION, CALLS FOR UNITY AND PEACE

 

Earlier on Tuesday, (August 26, 2025), Cross River State Commissioner for Education, Senator Professor Stephen Odey, (Oyorgu 1 of Yache Nation), has called for unity and peace in Yache Nation at the 2025 Yache New Yam celebration. Hosting the event at Community Primary School, Achuora-Uchu, Yache in Yala Local Government Area, Cross River State, Professor Odey reiterated his dedication to peace, stating that he avoids troublemakers and instead engages with peace advocates. He emphasized that development can only thrive in an environment of peace and unity, underscoring the celebration’s significance in promoting unity in Yache Nation. Additionally, Professor Odey expressed his deep respect for the people, recognizing them as the source of his strength.

In a demonstration of appreciation, the Oyorgu 1 of Yache Nation thanked everyone that graced the event, specially commended the Chiefs and elders of Yache Nation for their resilience in maintaining peace across all Clans in Yache land. He reiterated his commitment to simplicity and inclusivity, accommodating individuals regardless of social standing. The event showcased captivating performances from various cultural dance troupes from Yache, including the celebrated Queen Dance, Akataka, and Gana. Furthermore, the acclaimed international stand-up comedian Akpororo performed, entertaining guests with his wit. Other prominent artistes and Afrobeat stars, including Idealist, Big Daddy, and Zule Zoo, delivered outstanding performances that energized the atmosphere.

In addition, Hon. Odey Brian, Member representing Yala 1 State Constituency in Cross River State House of Assembly, was represented by Engr. Cosmos Oloko, and presented one cow to support the occasion. The Reality group, friends and supporters of Professor Odey from Abuja, Calabar and various parts of the nation were also in attendance to celebrate with Professor Odey.

The gathering was marked by the presence of distinguished guests from various walks of life, including Hon. Sylvester Agabi, Deputy Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly; Hon Dr. Martins Achadu, representing Yala 2 State Constituency; Hon. Charles Omang, representing Bekwarra; Hon. Engr. Thomas Aruku, representing Ogoja; Dr Egbe Ayuk, Honourable Commissioner for Health, Cross River State; APC chapter chairmen from Local Government Areas in Cross River North; representatives of each Local Government Area in Cross River North; Fr. Martins Omogor of the Holy Ghost Parish, Abuichiche – Bekwarra; Hon. Joe Idu, Hon. Idiku David, Hon. John Monday Odo, Hon. Patrick Oko, Hon Mike Ogbudu, Hon. Otanya Odey; Hon.
