In what is being described as a royal seal on the agitation for Anioma State, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge (SAN), has declared Senator Prince Ned Nwoko as the leader destined to deliver the long-awaited dream of statehood for the Anioma people.
During a high-profile consultation at the Asaba palace, the respected monarch commended Senator Nwoko for his bold legislative efforts and strategic outreach in pushing for the creation of Anioma State. According to the Asagba, Senator Nwoko’s courage, clarity of vision, and national stature place him in a unique position to achieve what others have only aspired to.
“You may be the one to deliver Anioma State,” the Asagba said, charging the senator to sustain the momentum. In a notable revelation, the monarch disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed a favourable disposition towards the creation of Anioma State, describing the President as being open and aligned with the ideals of equity and balanced federalism.
The meeting was part of Senator Nwoko’s ongoing consultations with traditional rulers across Delta North, aimed at building a united front for the success of the Anioma State bill currently before the National Assembly.
Senator Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, expressed deep appreciation for the royal support, describing it as a powerful encouragement that reinforces the legitimacy and urgency of the cause.
“We are building a national consensus for Anioma State — not out of sentiment, but based on fairness, historical identity, and constitutional justice. Our people have waited long enough. With this kind of support, we are closer than ever,” the senator said.
The Asagba, a former federal legal adviser and scholar of high repute, underscored that Anioma remains the only Igbo-speaking group in the South-South without a state of its own. He stated that the demand for Anioma State is neither new nor unreasonable, but rather a matter of correcting an obvious imbalance in Nigeria’s geopolitical configuration.
He praised Senator Nwoko for his consistent advocacy, noting that previous efforts lacked the strategic depth and broad-based engagement that now characterizes the current campaign.
Observers believe that the momentum around the Anioma State agitation has reached an all-time high, largely due to Senator Nwoko’s legislative leadership, grassroots connections, and political bridge-building across Nigeria’s diverse regions.
With traditional rulers, political stakeholders, and now the suggestion of presidential alignment, the Anioma State movement has taken on a new level of credibility. For many across Delta North and beyond, the time appears right, and Senator Ned Nwoko may indeed be the man to make it happen.
