…AS REV FR BOB ETTA CALLS FOR FORGIVENESS, REUNITES EBA AND CHIEF HIGGINS
In a touching show of unity and support, several prominent leaders and key figures came together to celebrate with Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq, JP – the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cross River State – as he marked his 50th birthday with a special thanksgiving Mass.
The event took place at St Charles Lwanga Parish in Essien Town, Calabar. Among the guests were Hon Peter Akpanke, who represents Obanliku, Bekwarra, and Obudu in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly; High Chief Higgins Peters; Rt Hon Legor Idagbo; Ada Bekwarra II, Hon Signor Omang Idiege. Many other APC leaders, including members of the State Executive Committee and chapter chairmen, were also present.
During the Mass, Rev Fr Bob Etta delivered a heartfelt sermon, touching on three key themes: Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations, prayers for political leaders at all levels – including the President, Governors, and lawmakers – and the milestone 50th birthday of Chairman Eba.
He emphasised the importance of forgiveness, love, and unity, reminding everyone that a jubilee is a time of complete forgiveness. “In a jubilee,” he said, “you forgive those who have wronged you, release those in bondage, and let go of old debts. It is a time for new beginnings.”
In a powerful moment of reconciliation, Fr Etta called on Eba and High Chief Higgins Peters – who had reportedly fallen out – to forgive one another and move forward with love, like a father and son. His call for peace moved the congregation deeply.
In front of everyone present, the two men embraced warmly, symbolising a fresh start and a shared commitment to work together for the progress of Yala, Cross River North, and the entire state.
It was a deeply emotional and uplifting moment, reminding all in attendance of the power of unity and the importance of healing old wounds.
