Senator Ned Nwoko has thrown his weight behind a Senate motion to investigate the alleged annexation of Nigerian mangrove islands in Akwa Ibom State by Cameroon.
During today’s plenary session, Senator Nwoko emphasized the need for urgent action, stating that Nigeria’s territorial integrity must be protected at all costs.
“Nigeria’s sovereignty is non-negotiable. We must ensure that no part of our land is unlawfully taken over. This issue requires a thorough investigation, and necessary diplomatic and legal steps must be taken immediately,” he said.
The Senate has directed relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Boundary Commission, to probe the alleged encroachment and take appropriate measures.
Senator Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to defending Nigeria’s interests, stressing that the Senate will not allow any violation of the nation’s territorial rights.
