Speaker Ayambem Pays Last Respect to Hon. Abubakar Ewa, Describes Him as a Unifier

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has paid his last respect to the late Hon. Abubakar Ewa, describing him as a unifier and bridge-builder whose passing has left a significant void in Boki politics.

Speaking at the funeral on Saturday, Ayambem noted that Boki had lost an exceptional leader. “Today, the Boki nation mourns one of its finest. He was an astute politician, and words cannot fully capture how dear ‘Abu’ was to us,” he said.

He described Ewa as a true democrat and mentor, urging young politicians to follow his example. The Speaker assured the family of the late politician of the government’s support and encouraged other political leaders to stand by them during this difficult time.

The burial ceremony was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Chief of Staff to the Governor Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, former Chief of Staff and Chairman of the GFO Orim Foundation Hon. Martin Orim, Member of Parliament Hon. Victor Abang (AKA Mature), Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbo, Deputy Speaker Hon. Sylvester Agabi, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, Chief Peter Ojie, members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, and Commissioners.

Hon. Abubakar Ewa, fondly called “the Paramount Ruler of Boki Politics,” was born on October 1, 1963. He held various leadership positions, including Councillor, Supervisor for Education, Secretary of Council, Executive Chairman of Boki, Director General (Anti-Deforestation), Special Adviser to the Governor on Forest Conservation, and Commissioner for Tourism, a role he served in until his passing.
