The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) of Cross River State, in a meeting held on September 11, 2024, unanimously agreed to reinstate Engr. Effiom Edet Okon as Chairman of the council. This decision followed a period of thorough deliberation and reflection on earlier concerns.
Engr. Okon was previously suspended on August 5, 2024, during an emergency council meeting. The suspension was based on allegations that he had managed council projects and concerns as though they were personal enterprises, without appropriately involving the council in key decision-making processes. These actions were perceived to be inconsistent with IPAC’s established goals.
However, after an enlarged council meeting on September 11, 2024, where a fair hearing was conducted, the council resolved to lift the suspension. In the spirit of unity and justice, it was determined that the allegations against Engr. Okon were unfounded. Ambassador Ogar Osim, State Party Chairman of the Labour Party, moved the motion for reinstatement, which was seconded by Dr. Innocent Ekwok and unanimously supported by the general assembly. The council also issued an open apology to Engr. Okon for any wrong assumptions made against him.
In his acceptance speech, Engr. Okon expressed his gratitude to the council for their trust and commitment to fairness. He pledged to continue serving with integrity, dedication, and a renewed focus on strengthening IPAC’s mission in Cross River State. Engr. Okon also highlighted his previous accomplishments, including fostering collaboration among political parties, organizing successful events, and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders.
He expressed his eagerness to build on these achievements, promising to implement new strategies that will further enhance the role of IPAC in the state. Engr. Okon thanked the council for the opportunity to continue leading, vowing to serve with renewed energy and commitment to the values of IPAC.
