The member representing Yala 1 State Constituency, Hon Brian Odey, is set to flag-off distribution of fertilizers to farmers across the eight wards of Yala local government area.
During a meeting with stakeholders ahead of the commencement of the exercise, Brian who is the House Committee Chairman on Public Accounts said the fertilizers would be given to the farmers and others in the Constituency free.
The distribution of the fertilizers is part of Hon Brian’s efforts to contribute to the attainment of food security in Yala.
He said the beneficiaries of the 450 fertilizers will cut across the eight wards of his Constituency. Also, to benefit are clerics, traditional leaders, elders, and youths, among others. No farmer is expected to pay a dime.
“This is the raining season in Yala, and farmers are in dire need of fertilizers. So, I have decided to distribute trucks of fertilizers across the eight wards of Yala 1, and the distribution will commence today.
“Agriculture is one of the key components of our economy as it contributes a lot to our GDP. It’s the mainstream of our economy.That is why I have decided to support our farmers so that we will have a bumper harvest this farming season.
“This is not the first, and it will not be the last time that I would be supporting farmers. We hope to attain food security to feed ourselves. By God’s grace, we will achieve this,” he said.
While wishing farmers a blessed farming season, he urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the gesture and invest in their farms so that they can feed themselves and contribute to the attainment of food security in the country.
