Gov. Otu’s Rice Revolution: Transforming Agriculture for Food Security in Cross River State: By Linus Obogo

All across the world, except, perhaps Nigeria, agriculture is an assured pathway to prosperity, as no country has developed a diverse, modern economy without first establishing a footprint in agriculture.

Propelled by this realisation, the state governor, Senator Bassey Otu has left no stone unturned and by extension, no one in doubt, about his practice direction in making agriculture the bedrock of his administration.

Governor Otu’s agricultural policy could be said to be deliberate, intentional and strategic, as a way of guaranteeing food security and food sustainability in the state.
It is against this backcloth that the 50,000-hectare rice farming initiative recently launched by the governor is a significant and logical step in the right direction towards achieving food security in the state.

With a focus on short-term cash crops like rice and cassava, as well as long-term investments in oil
