The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is a coalition of elected Governors’ of the Country’s 36 States, earlier yesterday Tuesday (March 26, 2024), inaugurated the Technical Working Group (TWG), where Senator Stephen Odey Ph D was appointed Chairman to head the TWG for the forthcoming International Conference on Girl Child Education in Nigeria, with the theme: “Girl Child Empowerment through Quality Education.”
The Director General of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Asishana Okauru Esq describes the body as a policy hub of the National government, assuring that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum will collaborate to address the Girl Child Education in Nigeria.
“The International Conference on Girl Child Education Conference is aimed at bringing together stakeholders education sector to promote and advocate for the Girl Child Education through support and funding to boost primary school enrollment and encourage inclusive education especially that of the Girl Child, he said.
The Chairman of the Technical Working Group (TWG), Senator Stephen Odey, Cross River State Commissioner for Education, remarked that the Technical Working Group (TWG) will support the advocacy and create the needed awareness for Girl Child Education in the States, continuing he said: “this opportunity that has been given to us is to enable us drive the process, so that at the end of the day, come 11th of October 2024 we should be able to have a roadmap for the Girl Child Education in Nigeria.
Dr. Ebenezer Leo the Great, Head of Education Department, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), said the Girl Child International Conference will promote and advocate for the Girl Child Education in Nigeria and it will also launch the Girl Child Education Volunteer Advocate Initiative and the unveiling of the face of the Girl Child Education Ambassador among first class graduates from Nigerian Universities from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. “What we hope to do with the Federal Ministry of Education and development partners is to strengthen national Girl Child Education enrollment drive and implement plans and policies for safe school and gender based violence, to encourage retention in school,” he remarked while calling for more collaborations among government agencies, Technical Working Group (TWG), Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and International Partners in the generation of education data, monitoring and evaluation policies as to ensure quality education for every Girl Child in Nigeria.
