The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon Peter Odey recently received in his office the Permanent Secretary, State Planning Commission, Dr. Peter Uklala, Directors and Head of Department for Food and Nutrition, Mrs Nkem Ubana on an advocacy visit focusing on food and nutrition programs in the State.
The Permanent Secretary said they were happy about the positive outcome of the visit and were therefore poised to put in their best to drive the food and nutrition policy in the state.
Also speaking during the visit, Mrs Ubana who is the Head of Department for Food and Nutrition said the department had suffered poor awareness and weak coordination in the past. So they were out to strengthen the coordination for intervention as the parastatal has the mandate to coordinate food and nutrition programs in the State.
Responding to the issues raised by Dr. Uklala bordering on funding, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey assured the team that funds will be released to drive the food and nutrition policy in the state and that the commission will soon get a Chairman who will liase with all relevant bodies to coordinate interventions to drive the policy. “We know the work that you are doing and we are thankful for it. We understand that times are really tough, but we also know that if we empower the commission on food and nutrition, it is for the good of our state at large”.
The Deputy Governor also assured the team that his doors will remain open to interface with them at all times for the well being of the people of Cross River State.
