C’RIVER ASSEMBLY SEEKS ABSORPTION OF CASUAL WORKERS IN CRBC

The Cross River State House of Assembly, has called on the State Government to absorb casual staff working with the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) Ikom and Calabar stations.

The Member representing Ikom 1 State Constituency, Hon. Samuel Neji Abang
who moved the motion, stressed that the State Government should immediately absorb casual workers and Artists and provide improved funding for the Corporation in Ikom and Calabar.

The Ikom 1 Lawmaker noted that, some casual staff have been working with the Corporation between three and ten years, receiving a salary of between six to eight thousand naira monthly.

Members who contributed to the debate said the meager allowances paid to casual staff for periods above six months violates International Labour laws.They also raised concerns about the obsolete equipment and infrastructure in the Corporation and called on the Government to address these challenges.

The House further called on the Government to inaugurate the Board of the Corporation in line with section 3 of the State’s Broadcasting Corporation law 2004.

They recommended that the years put in by the casual workers should be taken into consideration during the absorption processes.
