The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Bassey Otu on Timber Control (North), Ambassador Emmanuel Asegem, today hosted the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, at his residence in Ijiraga, Ukelle, Yala Local Government Area, as part of activities marking the 2025 Ukelle New Yam Festival.
The Ukelle New Yam Festival, a major cultural celebration that unites sons and daughters of the area, was held with pomp and pageantry, attracting traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, youths, and women groups.
Speaking at his residence, Ambassador Asegem said the hosting of the Speaker was a privilege and a way of showcasing the Ukelle people’s hospitality during their annual festival. He described the event as a season of gratitude, renewal, and communal unity, emphasizing that preserving Ukelle culture remains a priority for all.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem praised the Ukelle nation for upholding their cultural heritage while maintaining peace and harmony. He assured the people of continued government support under Governor Bassey Otu’s “People’s First” agenda, stressing that ongoing projects across local governments demonstrate the governor’s commitment to inclusive development.
The Speaker also commended Ambassador Asegem for his loyalty, service, and contributions to grassroots mobilization, describing him as a worthy representative of the Ukelle people in government.
