The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, on Friday joined the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, family, friends, and sympathizers at the funeral service of his late friend, Mr. Ayang Azom Ayang, who passed on at the age of 52.
The solemn service, held at the Winners Chapel State Headquarters in Calabar, brought together colleagues, associates, and community members to honour the life of the deceased. Until his passing, Ayang served as the Director-General of the Rural Urban Development Agency (RUDA), Ayang was known for his respect and humility, warmth, and commitment to service.
In his heartfelt tribute, Speaker Ayambem described Ayang as a true friend and a man who lived an exemplary life, leaving indelible marks on all who encountered him.
Speaking to Mrs. Martina Ayang, the widow, he said: “This is indeed a painful and trying moment. To lose a husband and father so dear is a burden that words cannot lighten. But we take solace in the promise of God, the comforter of the brokenhearted, who will strengthen and sustain you and your children.”
He further remarked that Ayang’s demise after a prolonged illness is not just a personal loss but also a significant loss to the entire Cross River community, noting that “his departure has left a void that will be difficult to fill.”
