The Cross River State House of Assembly has officially proceeded on a one-month recess after weeks of intensive legislative engagements. The break, which takes immediate effect, is in line with the Assembly’s calendar and will enable members to carry out constituency outreach, consultations, and other responsibilities outside plenary.
During the recess, lawmakers are expected to return to their constituencies to interact with their constituents, assess ongoing projects, and gather feedback on pressing issues that require legislative attention also to allow them to have International legislative engagement. The period will also provide ample time for committee work and preparations ahead of the next legislative session.
Speaking before adjourning plenary, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, commended members for their cooperation and dedication, noting that the 10th Assembly has already achieved remarkable milestones in the history of the legislature. He emphasized that the reward for hard work is more work and urged members to remain committed to delivering quality representation.
Ayambem assured that the 10th Assembly will continue to put the people of Cross River State first in all its activities. He expressed gratitude to Governor Bassey Edet Otu for providing a smooth working environment and for his readiness to assent to bills that directly improve the lives of citizens. He also appreciated the Governor’s proactive leadership and his efforts in touching every local government area with development initiatives.
The Speaker charged members to rededicate themselves to service, stressing that posterity will judge them positively for their contributions to the growth of the state. “More work lies ahead of us, and as we return from this recess, we must give our all to Cross River State,” he declared.
The House is scheduled to reconvene on October 10, 2025, to resume consideration of pending bills, motions, and oversight functions.
