The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambim Ekom, alongside members of the 10th Assembly, has received high praise from Ntufam Hon. Chris Njah Mbu-Ogar, the Special Adviser to the Governor on National Assembly Matters, for the historic passage and signing into law of nine (9) impactful bills.
Describing the development as a legislative milestone, Mbu-Ogar commended the Assembly’s commitment to the people of Cross River State and lauded Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu for assenting to the laws. He also acknowledged the Clerk of the Assembly for his administrative leadership and support throughout the process.
The newly enacted laws are geared towards reforming key sectors of the state and improving the quality of life for residents. The legislation includes:
1. Cross River State Health Insurance Law – Designed to provide affordable and accessible healthcare, with a focus on preventive care and wellness.
2. Cross River State Education Reform Law – Targets the overhaul of education standards through better infrastructure, teacher capacity building, and student-focused programs.
3. Cross River State Environmental Protection Law – Seeks to safeguard the environment through sustainable practices and the preservation of the state’s rich biodiversity.
4. Cross River State Agricultural Development Law – Focuses on modernizing agriculture, empowering farmers, and strengthening food security across the state.
5. Cross River State Small Business Support Law – Aims to boost entrepreneurship and job creation through support for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
6. Cross River State Tourism and Cultural Heritage Law – Provides a framework to harness the state’s tourism potential and protect its cultural heritage.
7. Cross River State Youth Empowerment Law – Designed to equip young people with skills, job opportunities, and pathways to self-reliance.
8. Cross River State Housing Development Law – Tackles the housing deficit through initiatives for affordable and decent living conditions.
9. Cross River State Digital Economy Law – Focuses on expanding digital access, promoting innovation, and enhancing technological literacy across communities.
Ntufam Mbu-Ogar described the legislative strides as a demonstration of responsive and visionary leadership by Speaker Ayambim and members of the House, affirming that the passage of the bills would set a new tone for growth and development in the state.
As these laws begin to take effect, the people of Cross River State are poised to benefit from a more inclusive, structured, and forward-looking governance framework.
