Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has joined Nigerians across the country in celebrating Democracy Day, marking 26 years of uninterrupted civilian rule in the nation.
In his Democracy Day message, Senator Nwoko praised the resilience and collective will of the Nigerian people, describing the country’s democratic journey as “a testament to the enduring spirit of a people united by hope and driven by purpose.”
“Today, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating over two decades of democratic governance — a journey marked by courage, resilience, and the collective hope of a great people,” he stated.
Senator Nwoko highlighted June 12 as a historic symbol of Nigeria’s democratic ideals, reminding citizens that “power truly belongs to the people” and that national progress must remain anchored in inclusion, justice, and unity.
He called on Nigerians to use the occasion to recommit themselves to building a more equitable and prosperous nation.
“Let this day renew our commitment to a Nigeria that works for all, where every voice is heard and every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” the Senator added.
He further reiterated his dedication to advancing the principles of democracy through impactful legislation and people-focused representation.
“Happy Democracy Day, Nigeria. Our future is bright, and together, we will keep moving forward,” the statement concluded.
June 12 is celebrated annually in honour of Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle and the historic 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as the freest and fairest in the nation’s history.
