There is renewed excitement in Okpoma, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, as contractors and heavy-duty equipment have arrived to resume work on the Okuku–Mfom Road project. The move follows a directive from the State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, as part of his administration’s push to reopen and complete key infrastructural projects across the state.
The arrival of construction teams and equipment marks a major step toward restoring the long-neglected road, which serves as a vital link for communities in Yala and beyond.
Yala Local Government Chairman, Dr. Fred Okem, expressed deep gratitude to Governor Otu for prioritizing the project under his “People-First Mantra.” He described the development as a strategic intervention that will boost trade, improve access, and ease mobility for residents.
Traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Eje Ipoule, praised the governor for his consistent commitment to regional development, calling the resumption of work a welcome relief for his people.
During a recent peace mission to Yala, Izzi LGA Chairman, Hon. Barr. Steve Emenike Nwankpa, also acknowledged the project’s significance, calling it a “God-ordained” effort with the potential to promote harmony and regional growth.
