BREAKING: Ikom Council Boss, Mercy Nsor, Presents N10bn ‘Budget of Consolidation’ for 2025

The  Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Hon. Pst. [Mrs] Mercy Nsor, has presented a record-breaking N10 billion appropriation bill before the Ikom Legislative Council for the 2025 fiscal year.

The budget, aptly christened the “Budget of Consolidation”, marks a significant leap from last year’s figures and demonstrates the Council’s renewed commitment to development, economic resilience, and improved service delivery.

Addressing the Council during the budget presentation, Hon. Nsor noted that the N10,065,090,483.00 budget is structured around two major components — Recurrent and Capital Expenditures — with priority given to tackling pressing community needs while laying foundations for long-term infrastructural and economic growth.

“This budget is packaged to implement projects and programs that will boost our people’s confidence in the system and improve their wellbeing, especially amid current economic challenges,” she said.

According to the breakdown, Recurrent Revenue is projected at N1,286,816,263.00, expected to be generated internally. The remainder will be sourced from statutory allocations, including the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), VAT, and ecological funds.

The budget proposes a Recurrent Expenditure of N4,538,874,851.00, which encompasses personnel costs, overheads, and consolidated revenue fund charges. Capital Receipts are pegged at N529,891,549.00, while a significant N5,526,215,631.00 has been earmarked for Capital Expenditure.

Projects under the Capital Expenditure segment are focused on job creation, skills development, economic empowerment, and expanding Ikom’s revenue base — all in line with Governor Bassey Otu’s people-centered governance blueprint.

This year’s proposal marks a substantial increase of N4,718,080,538.00 from the 2024 budget, which stood at N5,347,009,845.00.

Reacting to the presentation, the Leader of the Ikom Legislative Council, Hon. Moyo Efale, described the budget as “robust and timely,” pledging expedited legislative processes to ensure its prompt passage and implementation.

Similarly, the Deputy Leader and Councillor representing Ikom Urban Ward 2, Hon. Kasetima Ayiba, commended Hon. Nsor for her proactive leadership and for being the first council chairman in the state to present the 2025 budget. “With Ikom coming first in both appointment list and budget presentation, it shows how prepared the Chairman was for this task,” he said.
