A new chapter in grassroots sports development was written in Olachor Okpoma Ward, Yala LGA, as a newly formed football team was unveiled in a vibrant ceremony that drew community leaders, stakeholders, and youth advocates.
The launch marks a significant step in engaging young people through structured sporting activities, giving emerging talents a chance to grow and shine. Central to this effort was the generous donation of full sports kits including jerseys, boots, and training gear by Mr. Egbudu Mathew, Chairman and Group Managing Director of MAPSI Group. His contribution is expected to boost the team’s readiness for training and competition.
Addressing attendees, Mr. Egbudu Mathew emphasized the value of youth development, encouraging the players to stay focused and disciplined. He applauded the local leadership for creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
The event also featured Hon. Aleje Emmanuel, Councillor representing O’OH Ward, who hailed the initiative and pledged additional support by promising a set of jerseys for the team.
Comrade Abraham Okai, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Yala Chapter, expressed excitement about the initiative, noting that sports can play a vital role in uniting communities and keeping young people positively engaged.
Mr. Daniel Ikpe, the newly introduced head coach, thanked the supporters and vowed to mold the team into a disciplined and competitive force that would make Olachor Okpoma and Yala proud.
The Supervisory Councillor for Social Welfare in Yala Council, Mr. Augustine Adula, says the development is a powerful symbol of what’s possible when communities come together to empower their youth.
