The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State Chapter, has formally dissolved all interim political coalitions operating under its jurisdiction, including the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), and other related alliances.
The dissolution, which takes immediate effect, was announced following a general meeting of IPAC held on Monday, April 28, 2025, with representatives of 15 political parties in attendance. The meeting featured parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), African Action Congress (AAC), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and others.
Chairman of IPAC in the state, Engr. Effiom Edet Okon, who signed the official statement, warned that any individuals or groups who continue to act under the name of the now-defunct coalitions will face legal consequences.
“We have credible information that certain persons are parading themselves as leaders or members of coalitions that no longer exist. This is not only misleading but poses a threat to the integrity of our political system,” Okon stated.
He emphasized that none of the political parties present at the meeting identified as being part of any existing coalition, contrary to rumours suggesting otherwise.
In the wake of this development, IPAC announced plans to conduct fresh, transparent elections for the leadership of both CNPP and CUPP in Cross River State. The council assured stakeholders that the process will be democratic and inclusive.
IPAC further called on all political leaders and stakeholders to uphold the principles of peace, patriotism, and cooperation to ensure the stability of the state’s political environment.
Copies of the resolution have been forwarded to key security and electoral bodies, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps.
The council reiterated its commitment to promoting unity among political parties and safeguarding the democratic values of the state.
