C’RIVER EDUCATION MINISTRY PARTNERS WITH MEDA TO PROMOTE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN SCHOOLS

The Cross River State Ministry of Education has pledged full support for the People’s First Enterprise Club and Competition, an initiative by the Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (MEDA) aimed at equipping secondary school students with entrepreneurial skills.

During a meeting with MEDA officials, led by the agency’s Director General, Mr. Great Ogban, the Commissioner for Education, Senator (Associate Prof.) Stephen Odey, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a crucial step toward preparing students for business and self-reliance. He assured the agency of the Ministry’s collaboration in ensuring the program is successfully implemented across schools in the state.

Senator Odey reiterated the commitment of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration to strengthening the education sector, citing key achievements such as the establishment of the University of Education and Entrepreneurship in Akamkpa and the free WAEC registration for indigenous students.

In response, the MEDA delegation commended the Commissioner for his contributions to the sector and expressed confidence that the partnership would create more opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the state.

Present at the meeting were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Barrister Francis Oyije, the Director of Schools, Mrs. Okama Amos, and MEDA’s General Manager, Enwogho-Abasi Okon. The engagement ended with both parties agreeing to work together in integrating entrepreneurship education into the school system.
