The Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) Forum in Cross River State has endorsed Governor Bassey Edet Otu for a second term, citing his performance since assuming office. The forum made the declaration during a press conference held in Calabar on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Chairman of the SSAs Forum, Chief Mathias Ake, stated that the decision was based on a review of the Governor’s leadership and achievements across various sectors. He described the administration as result-driven, noting its impact on economic growth, security, infrastructure, and governance.
He said the Governor has maintained stability in the state, strengthened cooperation between the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government, and ensured smooth relations with the federal government and local councils. He also commended the Governor’s role in conducting peaceful local government elections following the Supreme Court ruling on autonomy.
The forum acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in infrastructure, including the Obudu Cargo Airport, Bakassi Deep Sea Port, and the rehabilitation of TINAPA Business Resort and the Calabar-Ogoja railway line. Other areas highlighted included road construction, agriculture, healthcare, education, and investment in the tourism sector.
Speaking on behalf of the northern senatorial district, the SSA on Timber Control (North), Amb. Emmanuel Asegem, declared that northern Cross River stands firmly with the Governor ahead of the 2027 election.
“The people of the north appreciate the Governor’s leadership and are fully ready to support him in 2027 to 2031,” he said. “His administration has remained focused on delivering good governance, and we will stand by him.”
The forum concluded the press conference with a vote of confidence in the Governor and a declaration of support for his re-election.
