Hon. Oden Ewa, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations in Cross River State, has taken a decisive step in supporting higher education by awarding scholarships of N250,000 each to 100 postgraduate students from the Central Senatorial District. This initiative, amounting to N25 million, reflects his direct investment in human capital and his recognition of the financial challenges faced by scholars pursuing advanced degrees.
The scholarship distribution occurred during a familiarization tour led by Hon. Mark Piece Osim, leader of Central Postgraduate Students in Cross River State. Initially planned as an interactive session, the event evolved into a momentous occasion as Hon. Oden Ewa announced financial support, addressing a critical need among postgraduate students. Given the rising costs of education, many beneficiaries described the intervention as both timely and life-changing.
Several students, including Obasem Eno, Mbang Edet Ibor, and Arikpo Egu, spoke about the struggles of financing postgraduate education. Arikpo Egu, in particular, shared that he had never received assistance from any political figure before and viewed this scholarship as a rare and meaningful gesture.
