Senator Ned Nwoko Pushes for Restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency

Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) has moved a motion on the Senate floor for the restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency, following a Supreme Court ruling affirming its legal existence.

The push for restoration dates back to 2014, when residents of Idumuje-Unor, Idumuje-Ugboko, Nkwu-Nzu, Ugboba, Idumuogo, Ugbodu, Ubulubu, Anioma, and Ogodo in Aniocha North LGA took legal action to reclaim their constituency. The Court of Appeal in Benin ruled in their favor on November 22, 2017, and the Supreme Court upheld the decision on November 29, 2019, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore the constituency and conduct elections.

Senator Nwoko emphasized the need for justice and fair representation, calling on INEC to implement the Supreme Court’s judgment without further delay. Senate President Godswill Akpabio acknowledged the motion’s importance and instructed Senate management to engage with INEC, urging the House of Representatives to also support the resolution.

The restoration of Aniocha North II marks a critical step in ensuring equitable political representation for the people of Delta North. Senator Ned Nwoko remains committed to upholding democracy and the rule of law.
