The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Alphonsus Ogar Eba esq, JP, attended the funeral of the late Hon. Robert Abubakar Ewa on Saturday in Boki Local Government Area.
Eba, along with members of the State Executive Committee, expressed deep sorrow, saying that Ewa’s passing, “like many others that struck me and pieced my heart deeply,” was particularly hard to bear.
Eba joined other notable political leaders in the state, including the Cross River State Governor, Apostle Senator Prince Bassey Otu, represented by Deputy Governor Rt Hon Peter Odey, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem, and several state commissioners and local government chairmen, to honour the late Ewa.
Until his death, Hon. Ewa was the Commissioner for Tourism and the former Chairman of Boki Local Government Area. He was also affectionately known as the “Paramount Ruler of Boki Politics.”
The funeral was attended by a range of political figures, including Senator William Eteng Jones, Hon. Victor Abang, State Exco members of the APC, and other key party officials.
In his tribute to Mrs. Ijeoma Abubakar Ewa, the widow of the late Hon. Ewa, the State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, shared a heartfelt message. “It was indeed a very sad one on that faithful evening when I received the news of the painful demise of your beloved husband, friend, partner, and father figure,” he said. “On behalf of my family, executives, and members of our great party, please accept our condolences.
“This was one death like many others that struck me and pieced my heart deeply. The sadness that enveloped me for several days was enough to show how dear your husband was to me. I understand how deeply you must be hurting knowing how much he meant to you. His love, affection, support, and sacrifices will be sorely missed, but take comfort in the fact that you will be reunited with him one day.”
Eba also reassured her by highlighting Hon. Ewa’s significant contributions, adding, “Our great party, the APC, and the government of His Excellency, Apostle Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, will never forget his service to the party and the state. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
It would be recalled that Hon. Robert Abubakar Ewa passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 61 after a brief illness. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Ijeoma Abubakar Ewa, their five children, and numerous relatives.
