CROSS RIVER APC CHAIRMAN, EBA MOURNS DEATH OF LOYAL SUPPORTER HON MATTHEW AKOBI

…PENS DOWN TOUCHING CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, has expressed deep sorrow following the death of his loyal supporter, Hon. Matthew Akobi. Speaking on Thursday, Eba said, “This is truly too much for me to bear.”

Eba, in a heartfelt condolence message, described the news of Akobi’s passing as shocking. He noted that while the loss was painful, he did not have the power to question God’s will. Akobi, who had recently served as the Supervisory Councillor for Education in Yala Local Government Area, was a steadfast supporter of the party and the APC chairman.

Eba, accompanied by several state party executive members, visited the home of the late Akobi to console his wife, Mrs. Martina Akobi. The Exco members included the Vice Chairman (North), Hon Emmanuel Ateb; State Secretary, Pastor Patrick Asikpo; Assistant Secretary, Erong Igwe; Treasurer, Dr Godwin Inyang; Organising Secretary, Mr Joseph Ishaje; Assistant Organising Secretary, Dr Erim Agbor; Special Leader, Mrs Juliet Diwa; and Assistant Welfare Officer, Mr Akiba Ayi. Also present was the Civil Service Commissioner for Cross River State, Hon. Friday Ngaji and Eba’s Chief of Staff, Hon. John Odey amongst others.

While comforting Mrs Akobi, Eba said, “Matthew Akobi is one of us forever. God willing, whatever he would have done while alive, we will give you that support. He is part of us, a brother and friend to us.”

Eba reassured the widow, saying, “Our concern is you and the children. We will be here for you and them.”

In his message in the condolence register, Eba wrote: “My dear brother Matthew, it is really sad to bid you farewell. You know how much you meant to me and how deeply I wished for your success and growth.

“How could you have left me so soon? Imagine life without you in my political and social world.

“You always called me your pathfinder and benefactor, and I promised I would help you reach your full potential. Now, I am left here mourning you.

“I don’t have the power to question God. This is truly too much for me to bear.

“Rest in peace until we meet in paradise. I promise to stand by your wife and children. Let not your heart be troubled, my dear brother and friend. Adieu, Matthew.”

It would be recalled that the late Hon Matthew Akobi passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
