In continuation of the ongoing distribution of fertilisers to farmers, Hon. Sylvester Agabi Jnr, the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly on Friday distributed another 420 bags of fertilisers to farmers in Obudu Local Government Area in Northern Senatorial District of the state.
Hon Agabi Jnr, who is also the member representing the good people of Obudu State Constituency had flagged off the distribution of fertilisers in Obanliku Local Government Area yesterday, where he assured farmers of the commitment of the administration of the Governor, His Excellency, Sen Prince Bassey Otu to providing support to farmers for improved yields and guarantee food security in the state in particular and the nation at large.
According to the speaker, the programme was the second phase of the exercise which formed part of a support to farmers to boost agriculture production in the constituency.
He explained that the programme was designed to strengthen farmers within the Obudu, Bekwarra, Obanliku Federal Constituency, to bridge the gap and mitigate challenges faced with food production and improve the quantity and quality of farm produce in the Constituency and beyond.
The event held at the Obudu local government area Secretariat, has in attendance, the HOLGA,cl critical stakeholders, farmers and extension service providers.
While speaking, Hon Agabi Jnr hinted on the importance of agriculture as one of the key components that contributes to the nation’s GDP, adding that it’s tla major mainstay of our economy, especially in Northern Cross River State, which is the state’s food basket.
He stated further that this is not the first, and it will not be the last time that he will be supporting farmers and that the fertilizers is not meant for the APC members alone but for all farmers in Obudu irrespective of political leanings. He therefore appealed to the stakeholders to allow the real farmers to be the real beneficiaries.
