Hon Odey Brian representing Yala 1 State Constituency has received Okpoma Unity Football Tournament led by the Founder, Mr Edrah Williams , Board members as well as the technical and administrative staff at his office at the Cross River State House of Assembly, Calabar.
The Honorable member congratulated the team on their achievement so far in the development of grassroots football and praising the promoters initiative and great performance so far.
Lauding the efforts of the founder and wishing the tournament success in the upcoming competitions, Hon Brian stressed that Okpoma Unity Football Tournament is a pacesetter towards harnessing young talents using football as a tool for peace and unity in Yala. While pointing out track-record of the achievements, he also praised the support shown to the tournament by the club’s fans who played a key role in bringing about the accomplishment. He directed to make a documentary on the tournament’s history and achievements, stressing support to all efforts aimed at serving the tournament in various fields.
Brian also commended the tireless efforts of the promoters for their selfless work and youth inclusiveness in fostering unity and growth to develop football and the sports sector in Yala.
For his part, Edrah Williams extended on behalf of Okpoma Unity Football Tournament Board members, affiliates and supporters sincere thanks and appreciation to Hon Brian for the meeting. He announced plans to commence this year’s edition of the tournament.This according to him would not only benefit the people of Okpoma but would also attract other clubs to play matches while boosting the local economy.
Mr Edrah used the occasion to call for government’s support and appealed for further promotion of the tournament, highlighting it’s significance in grassroots football development and discovery of talents.
