ALLEGED EXTORTIONS: C’RIVER COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION SUMMONS PRINCIPALS

Sequel to the petition labeled against some Schools Principals during an on-Air programme hosted by FAD FM 93.1 (a radio station in Calabar), where some callers called in and petition some Principals for illegal collections in their schools, the Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey Ph D, yesterday summoned the accused Principals to his office at the Ministry of Education Headquarters, Calabar.

The Principals of Government Secondary School State Housing Calabar, Government Secondary School Uwanse Calabar,
Government Secondary School Barracks Road Calabar, all appeared before the Commissioner and Directors for verification of the alleged extortions. After a thorough investigation, it was found out that they acted in accordance with the Ministry’s approved levies, and the misunderstanding was cleared, and parents were advised to demand for the approved levies schedule from the Ministry before making any payment.

The Commissioner further warned all Principals and Head Teachers to desist from any form of illegalities, as anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law.
“Under my watch only the right thing will be done,” he cautioned.
