Ayade stood by my father in his ailing times and even at death ~ Joseph Wayas (Jnr)

The first son of Nigeria’s former Senate President, Joseph Wayas, has commended Gov. Ayade for standing by his father during his difficult moments.

Mr. Joseph Wayas (Jnr) described fmr Gov. Ayade as a compassionate, generous, and kind leader who was good and respectful to his father at all times.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, he said “Ayade was good and very respectful to my late father. My father chose not to inundate him with too many personal requests because he never felt that selfish sense of entitlement for the goodwill of government. I think that this perhaps informed Ayade’s resolve to be always generous and kind to my father anytime the occasion would rise”

He further stated that the former Governor did a lot to assist his father while he was receiving treatment in London “He was providing uumonthly financial support and health support, including sending his commissioner of health to London to see to his health. All of this was done silently”

He appreciated fmr Gov. Ayade for the kindness and love shown to him and his family. He noted that Ayade is indeed a leader with a pure and kind heart “That spirit of kindness would upwards resemble a presidents proportion. It is on record that Ayade’s Government approved and released N200,000,000 (Two Hundred Million Naira) to ensure my father gets a befitting burial. Ayade was kind to all members of the Wayas family by deliberately considering for the welfare needs of everyone and making sure that the amount budgeted was fully funded by his Government”

He extolled the former Governor for always looking out for the forgotten in the society, noting that the former Governor will be remembered for his people oriented policies. He said “Undoubtedly, Ayade’s Government will be known as the Government of the forgotten, for he gave so many Government help and appointments, without interfering with the other tall and teeming responsibilities of Government. No surprise that his efforts led to glory days that most Cross Riverians will never forget in a hurry. All the good and incredible things he achieved as governor are there for both record and for PROVIDENCE”

He concluded by advising members of the public to be weary of those taking advantage of the death of his father to extort monies from unsuspecting members of the public for their own selfish political interest. He said “Those tasking people to benefit from my father’s death are not recognised by our family because we know those that were there for us at our lowest moments. Do not do politics with our fathers burial rites”

The late Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Joseph Wayas GCON was Nigeria’s Senate President in the Second Republic. He passed away on the 30th of November 2021 in a hospital, in the United Kingdom.
