C’RIVER ASSEMBLY SEEKS CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD NETWORK IN AKAMKPA

In furtherance of its efforts at effective legislation aimed at enhancing socia-economic development, the State House of Assembly has called on the government to construct a road network in Akamkpa LGA.

Specifically, the House wants the State Government to construct the road network linking Ojor-Ifumkpa, Iko Esai, Old Ekuri, New Ekuri, Uwet-Akwaibami and Budeng Villages in Akamkpa LGA to enhance socio-economic development of the area.

Moving the Motion on the floor of the House, the Member representing Akamkpa 1 State Constituency, Hon Okon Nyong Owuna bemoaned the absence of good roads in his constituency which is very rich in natural resources.

He said, the situation has greatly impeded development adding that
these communities have been cut off from the rest of the State making his constituents feel abandoned and frustrated.
” My people are really suffering, l am calling on the Government to please intervene urgently. Akamkpa is one of the largest revenue generating LGAs in the State yet the place is not developed. This is the season of sweetness with Governor Otu’s ‘People first’ mantra, l am calling on the government to construct that road as it will help my people carry their farm produce to markets easily for sales. Again, the lack of roads has led to several preventable v deaths because carrying sick people to the hospital is very difficult”. Owuna lamented.

He also lamented that the bad road network has affected access to quality education and health care which are of great importance to the present administration as teachers and health officials find it difficult to access these areas especially in the rainy season.

In their various contributions, Members supported the motion adding that palliative measures should immediately be put in place pending the comprehensive construction of the road network.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem reiterated the critical role that access roads play in community development and thanked Members for their overwhelming support of the Motion. He assured that the 10th Assembly under his watch will continue to legislate towards the development of the entire State.
