The Cross River State, Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams has revealed that the State is blessed with all the four major sources of Renewable Energy; solar, wind, hydro, and biomass (waste) and if properly harnessed can boost the economy of the state.
The Commissioner made this revelation during a panel section at a 2-day workshop organised by the Cross River State Government and the Federal Ministry of Environment in partnership with National Council on Climate Change and Stratus Consult limited themed: “Decarbonization and Biodiversity for the Niger Delta (A Pathway for Nigeria ‘NETZERO 2060)” held at the Calabar International Conference Center.
On the power plant at parliamentary extension, Eka Williams said the State inherited 23 Mega Watts embedded power which can only be used during emergencies.
The Power Commissioner, hinted that by 2024, the State will be in the electricity market where electricity will be generated and sold to Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company and it environs, adding that United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, (UNIDO) is also willing to provide 25 megawatts of power to the Ranch Resort and all other projects in the pipeline will have achieve results by 2024.
He advised participants to invest in Renewable Energy as it is the best source of energy.
