The Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem proudly presented former gold medalist, Bassey Etim Ironbar to the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu. The event was a celebration of Mr. Ironbar’s remarkable achievements and his return to his home state. Governor Otu warmly received him and, in a show of gratitude and support for the athlete, offered him a cash gift and automatic employment in the Cross River State Sports Ministry.
Bassey Etim Ironbar, visibly touched by the Governor’s generosity, expressed his gratitude and seized the opportunity to deliver an inspiring message to the youth of Cross River State. He encouraged them never to lose hope, emphasizing that with determination and hard work, anything is possible. Mr. Ironbar’s triumphant return to his roots after many years of Neglect due to injuries he sustained in the last game serves as an example of the state’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing local talent, fostering a sense of unity and pride among its citizens.
